The Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation was formed in 1999 with the mission to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Lexington County and to preserve the professional standards and safety of the employees of the Sheriff’s Department through active citizen involvement.
The idea to create the foundation came from several members of the local community who had participated in one of the department’s Citizen’s Academy programs. These local citizens were so impressed after learning about the department and all that it does that they felt compelled to do something to help the department in their efforts.
Funding for the foundation comes through numerous fundraising activities including the annual “Deputy of the Year” banquet, “Jailbreak 5K Run”, honorariums, memberships and private contributions. Through the years, the foundation has purchased many types of equipment and training materials for the department. Items provided by the foundation allow the department to offer an even higher level of service to the community and give the deputies the additional tools and training they need to be as safe as possible in a dangerous and demanding job – all without additional taxpayer expense. Since inception, the Foundation Board has been comprised of local business people who volunteer their efforts to support the department and the men and women of the department who do so much each and every day to offer the citizens of Lexington County the quality of life that we all enjoy. |
